Aug. 7, 2023 – Fifth-grader Keeva Deller emerged as the unrivaled champion of the Summer Reading Challenge hosted by Cane Bay Cares’ Operation Inspire afterschool program.
David Johnson, a partner in Cares’ parent company Cane Bay Partners VI, personally presented Keeva with her prize Monday at the CBVI office. The 9-year-old went home with an Amazon Kindle, Undercover Books gift certificate, and Operation Inspire gear as her reward.
The 2023 Summer Reading Challenge was an initiative designed to encourage students to enrich their learning through reading over the summer while formal classes were on pause.
In the same spirit, Operation Inspire also successfully launched its “On the Road for Literacy” campaign in partnership with the USVI Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums. This campaign included Operation Inspire and the Bookmobile’s staff visiting several locations on Tuesdays to share stories, lead book discussions, and introduce the mobile library to young readers.
Through these tools, and with the help of a small incentive, Operation Inspire hopes to foster a love of reading in our future leaders, which will lead to stronger communication and social skills, as well as better literacy.
