There is so much involved in delivering aid – setting up a supply chain, a distribution network and so much coordinating – and while it can be challenging, sometimes everything just falls into place in a miraculous way. Well that is what happened recently when we got an offer of extra inventory of Acrtic Ice freezer packs directly from the company, as well as coolers from Jim Terry, and hauling services from Reeves Bros Shipping in Lexington, TN. Arctic Ice donated more than 4,000 freezer packs, Terry donated dozens of coolers and a half a truck full of water! The generosity was phenomenal.
We knew they would go to good use but it wasn’t until we connected with the Virgin Islands Department of Health that we realized just how much they would help the community. The VIDOH had the capabilities to freeze the packs and they had the need – and, well, the rest is history.
So far, Cane Bay Cares has delivered more than 900 freezer packs and coolers to the VIDOH, who is in turn sharing them with partners like the Frederiksted Health Clinic. The freezer packs are being used to pack shipments that contain samples for laboratory testing to the CDC, and to transport vaccines and medications to patients. The coolers are being given to patients who need insulin but don’t have power to refrigerate their medication.
This targeted approach allows us to ensure the most impact to those most severely in need or impacted. We will continue this strategy wherever possible, and hope that miracles like this continue to happen.
